Inverness Residents Most Interested In Quitting Smoking

People living in Inverness are the most interested in quitting smoking, as they have Googled terms related to giving up cigarettes the most out of the whole country.

UK residential rehabilitation provider Abbeycare Foundation looked at data regarding Google search volumes for different terms that could be typed in when attempting to quit, including ‘go smoke free’, ‘nicotine patches’ and ‘e cigarettes’, The Leader reported

Inverness had a search volume of 491 per 100,000, making it the most popular place for quitters at the moment. It was followed by Walsall (488), Hereford (444) and Wrexham (441).

A spokesperson from Abbeycare Foundation said: “It’s very positive to see the volumes of people showing an interest in smoking cessation, and interesting to discover the areas in which there’s the largest sentiment for this kind of action.”

Among the rest of the top ten locations were Mansfield, Wigan, Norwich, Lincoln, Bath and Chester.

The rehab centre added that smoking is “one of the most prevalent addictions in the UK today”, which is why events such as No Smoking Day are important to keep the issue in the public domain.

It helps to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking, as well as advise people where they can go for support and advice.

No Smoking Day took place on March 8th, with the support of Alzheimer’s Research UK. This year’s theme was ‘stopping smoking protects your brain health’ to remind people that quitting smoking can reduce the risk of developing dementia.

One of the most effective ways to stop smoking is by using e liquid nicotine instead of cigarettes. This, in conjunction with therapy, support and patches, can increase the chances of success.
